PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Chief Accountant, performs difficult and responsible clerical accounting work involved in keeping and reviewing financial and statistical records in District Accounting Department.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This class is distinguished from the class of Account II in that the level of difficulty and complexity of work performed is greater. An Account Clerk III is expected to independently solve a variety of problems relating to the records maintained or the procedures followed. Positions in this class are used primarily in the District’s accounting unit and perform work related to the preparation and maintenance of a relatively complex, interrelated set of financial records under a minimum of supervision and guidance.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1. Gathers, assembles, tabulates, verifies and files financial and statistical data.
2. Maintains District accounts receivable system including preparing invoices and depositing incoming money.
3. Maintains and balances ledger accounts, identifies and corrects irregularities.
4. Prepares journal entries and reconciles various fiscal records and documents.
5. May contact other agencies, schools and District employees to discuss financial records and transactions; provides authoritative information on records maintained.
6. Operates basic office equipment including calculator, typewriter and computer terminal.
7. Prepares special warrants and related documentation.
8. Prepares revolving fund warrants and process general fund repayment warrants.
9. Approves and processes for payment district employee travel documents.
10. Performs other related duties as required.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Methods and practices of financial record keeping; bookkeeping methods and terminology; office methods and procedures; knowledge applicable to the payroll or accounts receivable function; applicable state, federal and local rules, regulations and ordinances affecting payroll or accounts receivable.

ABILITY TO:
Perform difficult clerical work and make arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy; prepare accurate financial summaries and reports; operate a variety of office machines such as electronic calculator, adding machine and computer terminal; understand and carry out oral and written directions; maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; type statistical reports containing numerical data at a rate not less than 40 words per minute from clear copy.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school including or supplemented by coursework in data processing and/or bookkeeping. Three years of increasingly responsible experience in the preparation and maintenance of financial records including at least one year with a government agency.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Typical office environment.

Requirements / Qualifications
2 Letters of Recommendation required.

Required Qualifications: Graduation from high School including or supplemented by coursework in data processing and/or bookkeeping. Three years of increasingly responsible experience in the preparation and maintenance of financial records including at least one year with a government agency.

Desirable Qualifications: Accounts Payable experience; experience with Escape software; excellent oral and written communication skills; able to work as part of a team; able to multi-task; strong attention to detail.

Mandated Reporter Training must be completed within the first 6 weeks of employment.

Work Day: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
