Job Title:            Bakery Cake Decorator

Department:     Bakery Department

Reports To:        Bakery Manager

FLSA Status:       Non-Exempt

 

Position Overview:

As a Cake Decorator, you will be responsible for creating appealing designs on our specialty bakery goods. You will ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

·       Must have previous cake decorating experience

·       Understand and enforce proper health requirement for food prep

·       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

·       Customer service skills

·       Ability to prioritize

·       Must be able to prep and fulfill orders in a timely manner

·       Must know all aspects of cake decorating including but not limited to:

o   Slice (split) a cake

o   Ice and border a cake (i.e. shell border, reverse shell)

o   Write on cakes or plaques

o   Make ganache, pastry cream, marzipan, cream cheese icing, and curds, toast almonds, etc.

o   Pour cakes; roll out marzipan, fondant, band cakes

o   Make cakes in a efficient manner

·       Must be willing to taste and evaluate all products offered in the department

 

Responsibilities & Qualifications:

Duties:

·       May at times be required to perform and fulfill all duties and responsibilities of Bakery Baker and Customer Serve

·       Provide excellent, efficient and quality customer servicer

·       Perform all duties related to all decorating, product, sanitation and stocking of all bakery produces

·       Decorating and finishing of cakes and pastries

·       Properly label and date all products

·       Maintaining the cake case; which includes but is not limited to: product rotation, cleaning, preparing components for cakes and pastries

·       Aid in preparation of some mixes

·       Establish and maintain positive and productive vendor relationships as necessary

·       Answer department phone calls and pages quickly with great phone etiquette

·       Able to produce product in a timely manner

·       Maintain, clean, organize, stock and rotate daily received products

·       Maintain and continually clean and keep department organized.

·       Sanitize, clean and operate equipment when needed

·       Report all life, safety and fire hazards to your Team Safety Department Representative for correction. Comply with all occupational safety and health regulations. Report all accidents and injuries to your store Leadership immediately.

 

Requirements:

·       Must be 18 years +

·       Able to learn proper use of and operate baler and all other equipment used during food preparation and clean up

·       Have a valid food handlers certification through ServSafe or other ANSI compliant organization

·       Demonstrated ability in knife handling, other cutting equipment and safety procedures

·       Ability to properly stock and rotate product in freezer

·       Ability to work various shifts including weekends and holidays

·       Follow and enforce all applicable State of California Health and Safety Codes

·       Understand importance of all waste, spoilage and transfers to department

·       Ability to deliver product in a timely manner

·       Ability to understand and effectively communicate with customers

·       Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

·       Ability to communicate clearly and work well with others

·       Ability to perform physical requirements of position

 

 

Physical requirements:

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Some requirements may be modified to accommodate individuals with disabilities:

·       While performing the duty of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, squat, climb, reach and kneel.

·       The employee must be able to bend and twist at waist and neck.

·       Employee must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and regularly lift up to 15 pounds while carrying cakes and mixing/decorating ingredients a distance of 50 yards.

·       The employee must be able to reach above and below shoulders to access items in cabinets and on racks.

·       The employee may on occasion have to use their fingers to operate a keyboard and count money.

·       The employee must be able to work with flour, dairy, fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts

·       The employee must be able to tolerate regular pushing, pulling, grasping, gripping and manipulation of hands and fingers in order to prepare and decorate cakes and pastries.

·       The employee must be able to tolerate intermittent noise from blenders, juicers, mixers, espresso machines and overhead speakers.

·       The employee must be able to tolerate some work in extreme temperatures while working in the freezer or near the ovens and dishwasher.

·       The employee must be able to tolerate moderate amounts of chemical fumes from common household cleaning agents.
