SUMMARY:

The Bakery Baker position is responsible for the timely baking of: dough, mixes, cakes, cookies, breakfast pastries, pies, par-baked breads and bars. Stocking of dry products. Some cake decorating. All baking, cooling, wrapping and labeling of products; merchandising all products employing correct rotation, while tracking waste.

 

DUTIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

·       Careful baking of quality pastries and breads

·       Production planning and forecasting for special events and holidays

·       Properly label and date all products

·       Preparation of some mixes

·       Sanitize and clean equipment when needed

·       Maintain and organize department as well as receive and rotate incoming stock daily

·       Control spoilage

·       Aid in processing and receiving warehouse orders

·       Answer department phone calls and pages quickly with great phone etiquette

·       Able to produce product in a timely manner

·       Maintain a safe and sanitary department. Report all life and safety and fire hazards to your manager and Safety Department Representative for correction. Comply with all occupational safety and health regulations. Report all accidents and injuries to your Store Leadership immediately.

·       Perform all other duties as assigned by Department Manager

REQUIREMENT

·       Minimum of 18 years of age

 

EDUCATION

·       High school diploma or equivalent

·       Baking and Pastry Certificate a plus

 

EXPERIENCE

·       Minimum of one year baking experience.

 

SKILLS

·       Outstanding customer service skills

·       Excellent baking and mixing skills

·       Café experience preferred

·        A strong passion for baking fantastic and delicious pastries and breads

·       Intermediate knowledge of artisan breads and pastries including cake decorating with a desire to expand product knowledge

·       Self-motivated

·       Ability to work well with others and independently

·       Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with customers and other staff members

·       Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively

·       Ability to be flexible and change tasks when events dictate

·       Willing to taste and evaluate all products offered in department

·       Ability to perform proper and safe usage of Hobart mixer, oven and other equipment as required

·       Ability to properly and safely operate the cardboard baler

·       Ability to properly stock and rotate product in freezer

·       Demonstrated ability in knife handling, other cutting equipment and safety procedures

·       Strong organizational skills

·       Maintain equipment and department cleanliness at all times

·       Follow and enforce all applicable State of California Health and Safety Codes

·       Ability to follow instruction and other duties as directed

·       Ability to work various shifts including weekends and holidays

 

     LANGUAGE SKILLS

·       Bilingual, English/Spanish is preferred but not necessary

·       Ability to read, comprehend simple instructions

 

     MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

·       Must be able to do basic math (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication)

·       Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals 

·       Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent

 

     REASONING ABILITY

·       Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions

·       Ability to exercise sound judgment

·       Valid Food Handlers Certification

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

·       Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, squat, climb, reach and kneel.

·       Regularly required to bend and twist at waist and neck.

·       Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and regularly lift up to 10-25 pounds while carrying cakes or stocking.

·       Regularly required to reach above and below shoulders to access items in cabinets and on racks.

·       Frequently required to push, pull, grasp, grip and manipulate hands and fingers in order to prepare cakes, breads and pastries.

·       Regularly required to tolerate intermittent noise from blenders, juicers, mixers, espresso machines and overhead speakers.

·       Constantly required to work with flour, fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts.

·       Occasionally required to tolerate some work in extreme temperatures while working in the freezer or near the ovens and dishwasher.

·       Occasionally required to work with and around moderate amounts of chemical fumes from common household cleaning agents.    

·       Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment including cut-resistant gloves when using knives and bread slicer, oven mitts when opening the oven, goggles when using chemicals.

·       The employee must wear non-slip shoes at all times
